Young people

Supporting you in foster care

At Xcel 2000 we understand the range of issues and difficulties you will be facing becoming a child in our care and unsettling that can be; you may be feeling confused and vulnerable.  We want to provide you with the best opportunity of having a positive care experience whilst staying with one of our foster care families. They will value developing a positive relationship with you, built on trust and commitment, wanting to make sure that you feel your views are listened to and that you are involved in any decision making wherever possible.  The carers will help to support your wishes around contact with family members and give you a sense of belonging.  We understand that too many changes in a young person’s life will be scary and you may feel isolated, but our carers will treat you with respect, providing you with opportunities and the resources to be involved in new or old favourite activities and will do fun and exciting things.   We understand that you just want a sense of normality and also a sense of identity; our carers will give you the opportunity and support to attend education and to learn additional skills to help you become more confident and independent.

When you first arrive and are staying with one of our foster families, you will be provided with a copy of our Young People’s guide, to help you understand the role of your foster parent, the agency and the people around you.  As well as your foster family doing the best they can to provide you with a positive experience, Xcel 2000 have a Children Services Team who are available to support you should you wish to speak with someone outside of your foster family. They also arrange a variety of fun activities throughout the year which provides an opportunity for all of our young people to get together with other young people in foster care.  This direct contact with the Childrens Services Team provides you with an outlet to share your thoughts and feelings as well as have your say on how things are going and what could be improved.  The team produce an in-house newsletter called Teenchat for our older children which can keep you informed of relevant topical issues as well as some fun entertainment.

Within Xcel 2000 we also have a Youth Participation Group, this is made up of young people who are both looked after and sons and daughters of our foster carers. The purpose of this group is to seek views, knowledge and skills as representatives of young people within Xcel 2000. You will be supported by our Children Services Officers; their role is to support and empower you to have your voice heard and ensure that Xcel 2000 is fully meeting your needs.
