Welcome Amie T!
A big welcome to our newest staff member Amie who has written this blog to introduce herself;
"Hi, I’m Amie and I have recently joined The Hazel Project. Initially I am here to support any families that are considering transferring over from another organsation or the local authority to us. The ethos at the Hazel Project is great and I’m excited to tell you all about us! It’s quite obvious that our families are at the centre of what we do and it’s so lovely to see how well looked after they are. This year has been a difficult one for many however the organisation has gone above and beyond to keep that “ family “ feel. One thing I love already is every week, all of the staff come together to hear about the children's achievements and the excellent work our foster families are doing.
I have been in the fostering industry for nearly 4 years and I am so glad that my career ended up taking this path. I spent many years working in recruitment for a high street agency and then moved into welfare to work - this was all about helping the most vulnerable people get back into employment - far more rewarding than your everyday recruitment job. Sadly after 7 years my offices were closed and I was faced with redundancy... little did I know as it was a blessing in disguise and I then started my career in fostering
More recently, I have worked closely with foster families and been responsible for the successful matching of children with them - this I found the best part of my job. Knowing where a child has come from and the trauma they have suffered to see them flourish in a foster family is the best feeling.
I can’t imagine my life now without a connection to fostering in it. One of the best times I’ve had was when a colleague and I took 24 of our foster children on a residential trip! We were ziplining and making rafts, completing assault courses and staying up all night chatting. It was so much fun.
To start with I’ll be working closely within the recruitment team within the Hazel Project, supporting new families who wish to transfer from their current organisation over to us - we know this can be a daunting process but it is a lot easier and quicker than you think I will be your first point of contact when looking to transfer and will support you with everything through to panel - exciting!
Next year will see me potentially moving on to support the referrals team . Here I will work with our wonderful families across The Hazel Project matching them with some great children.
Outside of work, my biggest love is my family - I am very lucky to have three great kids of my own who are 16, 11 and 7. They definitely keep me busy. My grandma is very close to me, she is 88 and her shopping list each week gets more and more demanding! I’m a very sociable person so I love spending time with my friends, whether that be at home or in Vegas haha! I also work the odd shift in my local pub which I thoroughly enjoy, it’s very much a community pub and great at Christmas. When I’m not in there, I am in the gym or out walking which is great me time and much needed. I also like a good Netflix series, any recommendations welcome "
