Xcel 2000 recognises the importance of ensuring that carers receive appropriate training to assist and support them in their role. We are committed to providing carers with training throughout the year and have an annual training programme. Foster carers can also access external training events and carers are supported in completing the TSD training. We are delighted to be working in partnership with an online training provider in the UK, to provide in-depth online training for carers, staff and young people.
The range of E-Learning courses provide the knowledge across a range of issues that is essential learning for foster carers. They are available on different levels to meet the experience of the carers. These courses do not replace the need for foster carers to attend in-house training. However. they are excellent for 2nd carers who want to undertake training but find it hard to attend, or for carers to take the opportunity to access specialist subjects relevant to their approval or current placement. The courses are reviewed and kept up to date with current legislation and are mapped to Training Support and Development Standards.
Training includes but is not limited to; working with children and their challenging behaviour, sexual abuse awareness, drugs, alcohol and addictive behaviours, first aid, fire safety, record keeping and report writing, family contact, life story work, child protection, court skills and secure base model. Many of these courses are repeated each year as part of a rolling programme while other training events are organised to meet the specific needs of carers.
Xcel 2000 runs Skills to Foster training for prospective foster carers and is currently using The Fostering Networks training package. Existing carers and children of carers are involved in the delivery of this training.
